Cultivating Healthy Forests for Future Generations

Site Preparation

Each tract of land is unique and requires its own prescription of practices in order to optimize reforestation. Many landowners have found it beneficial to utilize a site prep herbicide application which rids the tract of unwanted vegetation and drastically increases the survivability of seedlings. These herbicide applications are performed equally well by helicopter, drone, skidder, and even backpack, depending on the size and accessibility of the tract. If found to hold more moisture, it is often necessary to v-shear and bed some tracts in order to provide the seedlings the best chance of survival. No matter the needs of your land, Greenleaf Timber & Management is committed to working with each landowner to provide the required solutions for site preparation.

Tree Planting

After harvesting timber, it is considered best practice to reseed your tract to produce a healthy and productive stand of timber for the future. Reforestation allows for flourishing wildlife habitats, along with rotations of timber harvests over extended periods of time, which provide income for the landowner. Greenleaf Timber & Management does extensive research in order to supply landowners with the best possible seedlings that are treated for Pales Weevil, grow at a faster rate for quicker turnover, contain fewer physical deformities that hinder the price of timber, and provide the most amount of income for the landowner.

Greenleaf typically uses ArborGen seedlings, especially for Loblolly Pine, though we may have to utilize other nurseries for more unique plants.

Release Sprays

After reseeding a tract, it is sometimes necessary to perform a release spray herbicide application in order to kill unwanted vegetation and "release" the pine seedlings, allowing them to grow unhindered by other species. Greenleaf Timber & Management will work with both landowners and contractors in order to see the proper post-planting care of a tract is achieved, enabling the best possible survivability rate for seedlings.
